Sondra Spaulding
Howard University, Class of 2007
A native of Toledo, Ohio, Sondra Spaulding is a rising senior at Howard University, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Broadcast Journalism.
At the urging of her Sunday School teacher, a Howard alumna and practicing attorney, Sondra spent her high school summers volunteering on local campaigns for County Prosecutor and County Clerk of Courts. She enjoys campaign work, and has volunteered for the past six months on a mayoral campaign in Washington, DC.
On campus, Sondra works in the dormitory and serves as a contributing writer for the District Chronicles, a weekly newspaper published on campus and distributed throughout Washington, DC, and suburban Maryland.
Last year, she and seven friends founded The Gentlemen Scholar’s Program, a student-initiated drive to recruit and retain male students. (Howard’s student population is only 38% male.)
Sondra has always planned to follow in her Sunday School teacher’s footsteps by attending law school, but is not entirely sure she wants to be a practicing attorney; she is also interested in exploring policy work or possibly a career in campaign strategy. |
