CPL Spotlight:

Randella Bluehouse

Location: Mesa

Program: 2006 Arizona Fellow

Profession: Program Coordinator of the Indian Tribal Council

Fellowship Track:  Future Candidate

How have you been a leader in your community ?
I'm proud that I have the chance to help the Tribes of Arizona create better opportunities for their aging community members. I am proud to advocate for the urban American Indian populations in Phoenix and help to bring services and people together to create better opportunities for American Indians and society as a whole.

What motivates you to be involved in public service?
I can't imagine my-self standing around watching things happen, especially if it is something that is hurting others. I know I can help change the way things are and make things a little better. I do it because we all need to work together.

What are your long-term leadership interests?

I am interested in running for House of Representative, District 2. I am still
researching and planning the time frame but I am going to run for this position in the future.

What long-term change do you want to help bring to your state or community?

I want to return to the Navajo land – to my community of Ganado and create opportunities for economic development, help to develop more community leaders, better schools, preservation of the Navajo language and culture programs, safer communities, help to create a stronger and stable Tribal Government. I just want to live in a community that I can be proud of where families are safe and people care.

...and about the Center for Progressive Leadership:

What attracted you to the CPL Fellowship?

I am always looking for a challenge and a place to fit in. I like their philosophy of building leadership with people that are like-minded that have not had the opportunity to receive training and support to run for a political office or to create organizational leaders that are from the heart of the earth.

How do you envision the Fellowship helping you to achieve your goals?

It is helping me to envision my personal goals and to plan for the attainment of my goals. I have a tendency to have goals for others and the community but it has been a challenge to find that I can have both. I am positive that deciding to join CPL is good for me.
