CPL Spotlight:

Brad Hunter

Location: East Grand Rapids

Program: 2006 Michigan Fellowship

Profession: Admissions Representative

Fellowship Track:  Future Candidate

What personal values most shape your political beliefs?

My political viewpoints are shaped mostly by a belief in the right for all to access government, honest government, and hope for our future generations.

What motivates you to be involved in public service?

First, that America is in need of populist change.  Too many people are once again being disenfranchised, not only from voting, but from an adequate way of life.  Second, my experience as a teacher has taught me to be hopeful for generations of young people today, coming to age under a unique set of circumstances.

What long-term change do you want to help bring to your community?

I want to deliver an equitable educational system to my state.  Education’s time-honored tradition has been steadily replaced by big government and big business.  We also need honesty from our government more than ever. In times of struggle and change, it’s the people who need to be an active part of change.  Most of all I want Progressives to attach real meaning and purpose to the positive ideals that exist in Liberal government.

...and about the Center for Progressive Leadership:

What attracted you to the Fellowship?

There is a groundswell of likeminded Progressives certain of their purpose in the United States today.  It was obvious from the start, this organization has the tools to take our perspectives, refine and construct them, then create leaders who will deliver this message.

How is the Fellowship helping you achieve your goals?

First, the state-wide sessions provide an environment where ideas and information can be shared, about changes we hope to see.  Through these discussions many of us are being encouraged to enact this change.  Second, for someone like myself with little political experience the opportunity to learn from more experienced fellows is extraordinary.  Finally, CPL has provided me the network of assistance necessary to get a career in politics started.
